If you order before 30 June 2010 the Book of Goyard is yours for only €5,000 (it is €6,000 after that date).
In all seriousness though, it looks to be an object of pure luxurious beauty. Limited to 233 copies, after Goyard's historic and current address at 233 Rue St-Honore in Paris, each book took seven years to construct and in total the project was a decade in the making.
Featuring hand-cut pages made from hand-made paper produced using a 500-year technique, each book is housed in a custom made trunk, with the owner of the book getting to choose the colour combination of the famous chevron print and, if they so desire, any other stripes and insignia they wish painted onto the trunk. The edition number will also be painted onto the trunk and the owner's name will be printed onto the "justification detirage", showing that the book was specially printed for them.
Sale is by appointment only.
